12 seafarers died of suspected food poisoning while on board a bulk carrier owned by the Chinese company China Shipping Cosco Corp.
The Wu Zhou 8 made a distress call on 30th September after its 21 crewmembers suddenly fell ill about 63 miles south-east of Con Dao Island in the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.
Ten died on board while the remaining eleven were immediately hospitalized. Two others died on the way there. The remaining nine are currently in stable condition.
The exact cause of the food poisoning is still being investigated.
