by Port News Editorial Staff

Piraeus Port Authority has had a record-breaking 2022. Compared to last year, revenue was up  26.2% while profit after tax rose by 43.9% to 52.9 million euros. In 2022 the port’s annual turnover increased to 194.6 million euros, from  154.2 million euros in 2021.

A total of 5 million TEUs were handled by the Greek port in 2022. Container traffic at Pier I, under the direct control of the local Port Authority (67% owned by Cosco Shipping), was up  5.4%.

In contrast, piers II and III, which are operated directly by Cosco, recorded a drop in box traffic handling, due to the zero-covid policy promoted by the Chinese government for most of the year.

Cruise traffic skyrocket by 190% and homeporting arrivals doubled. The number of coastal ferry passengers increased by 26% to 14.9 million, compared to  11.8 million in 2021.
