The Port of Long Beach closed 2021 with a 9.38 million TEU throughput. This marks an 15.7% increase compared to the previous year, when it had achieved its best result ever: 8.11 million twenty-foot containers.
Imports were up by 14.6%, to 4.51 mln TEUs while exports fell by 2.6%, to 1.47 mln TEUs. The number of empty containers rose by 27.5% year-on-year to 3.3 million TEUs.
The port’s CEO, Mario Cordero, considers it an incredible result, accomplished by skilled workers who were able to keep goods moving along the supply chain.
