Congestion problems continue to clog up the quays in the world’s major ports, provoking ‘traffic jams’ along current trade routes and leading to delays in sailing schedules.
In February, delays incurred by ships on scheduled sailings affected 11.6% of available vessel capacity. Sea Intelligence disclosed this in its latest report, using data from the Global Liner Performance (GLP) and Trade Capacity Outlook (TCO) databases.
Sea Int. reports an improvement over the previous month, when overall missing vessel capacity had hit 13.7% of the total, but it also states how the average delays accumulated by ships have increased significantly, so much so that they can only be recorded successfully by the May AQA report. According to the memo this means that schedule reliability for February would likely be worse than what is being currently reported.
