Port training exploring new routes

by Port News Editorial Staff

A training exchange week at the educational and training institute for the maritime port and logistics sector in Rotterdam, STC Group, organized by the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority as part of “Ports & Skills” project. The project is in the European Erasmus+ 2014-2020 program. In addition to the Port Authority (project leader), the ports of Valencia (Fundacion Valenciaport), Rotterdam (STC Group), Venice (Intermodal Logistics Training Center- with the North Adriatic Port Network Authority as shareholder) and Provincia di Livorno Sviluppo (PLIS) are also taking part.

The exchange program, which will start tomorrow and end on June 3rd, will focus on new skills in digitization and automation and the education and training system in ports. Sixteen people will be participating, including Port Network Authority staff  but also employees working at some of Livorno’s long-established  port sector companies (CILP, CPL, Inter Repairs Nord, LV-Ghianda-Grimaldi, TCO).

The initiative is the second of the project’s four exchange activities. The first, held at Fundacion Valenciaport from the 9th to the 12th of May, focused on new port skills related to energy transition.

The next training experience will, instead, be in Livorno, from the 5th to the 7th of July. It will be dedicated to safety in the organization of port terminals and the impact of digitalization, automation and environmental sustainability. Delegates from the ports of Rotterdam, Valencia  and Venice will be taking part.

The final training week will be held next  September in Venice, where passenger safety training activities will be organized in cruise and commercial terminals.
