After welcoming Maersk, which just a few days ago announced its resignation from the International Chamber of Shipping due to a lack of ecological ambition, the World Shipping Council announces that it has acquired another major shipping company.
Pacific International Lines (PIL) is the world’s twelfth-largest player in the container industry in terms of operating ship capacity ,with a fleet of 100 vessels and a global trading network spanning Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.
John Butler, WSC President and CEO said they were very pleased to welcome PIL and looked forward to their contributions to their Councils and Working Groups.
PIL’s CEO, Lars Kastrup, is to represent the shipping company on the World Shipping Council board.
Mr Kastrup said that PIL was pleased to become a member of the World Shipping Council and join other like-minded shipping companies in strengthening industry collaborations and advancing key global sustainability issues. He added that the long-running, albeit disruptive, pandemic had highlighted the urgency for the need to look for viable solutions to combat climate change. Moreover, PIL stands ready to strengthen its support for advancing decarbonization and other sustainability agendas among their peers.
