COSCO Shipping Heavy Industries has formed a partnership with a rotor sail supplier to promote the use of the technology on newly built ships or during refitting.
Anemoi Marine Technologies, based in the UK, will provide the shipbuilding company with a complete service package, ranging from project analysis, design and engineering activities, custom manufacturing, installation and inspection activities.
The rotor sail technology, a modernized version of the Flettner rotor, a rotating cylinder that uses the Magnus effect to harness wind energy, will reduce harmful emissions by up to 30%.
CSHI Deputy General Manager Guo Zhiqiang said they were delighted to be working with Anemoi Marine Technologies and had been impressed by its solution, which could be combined with a number of other fuel-saving measures.
