Accelerating ecological transition by transforming organic waste into vessel fuel. This is what prompted NYK Line to sign a strategic agreement with LPG Astomos Energy and the recycling company Sustainable Energy Development today.
The basic idea is simple: organic waste produced on board ships during transport operations and unloaded in ports can become a valuable resource for the ecosystem. At present the waste is burned, producing carbon dioxide, tomorrow it could be put to a better and, above all, environmentally sustainable use.
The partners have signed an agreement undertaking to develop a comprehensive study on the subject over the next few years, up to 2025.
Over this period, the Japanese carrier will install a modern waste conversion system developed by Sustainable Energy Development on its ships.
