MITSUI OSK Lines has successfully completed its first net-zero trip. The Cajun Sun, a dual-fuel tanker running on bio-methanol, left Geismar, USA, on January 17th and arrived in Antwerp, Belgium, on 4th February. It was chartered by Waterfront Shipping, a subsidiary of Canadian methanol supplier and distributor Methanex
During its transatlantic voyage, the vessel didn’t produce any greenhouse gas emissions at all.
Methanex Senior Vice President, Mark Allard, said his company was proud to offer the shipping industry a tangible solution for the transition to net zero emissions through its blended methanol fuel using bio-methanol produced from renewable natural gas at its Geismar facility in the US.
