From 2024 diesel trucks will no longer be allowed to transit from quays in in Californian ports. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) stipulated this in a measure called Advanced Clean Fleets, which bans all medium-and heavy-duty vehicles by 2036.
The new regulation is applicable to local, state, and federal government-owned vehicles, as well as fleets belonging to stakeholders with annual revenues of $50 million or more that own, operate, or manage at least one vehicle in California, and have a total of 50 or more of them. It also applies to medium- and heavy-duty road vehicles weighing over 3,856 kg, as well as to off-road tractors and light-duty mail and parcel delivery vehicles.
This road map has the long-term objective of progressively increasing the manufacture and consequently the sale of zero-emission vehicles to totally replace endothermic ones.
Unloading trucks, in particular those used to transport containers and goods from ports and railway yards, will be able to register with CARB from 1st January 2024 if they are zero-emission.
