A Chinese fishing boat with 39 sailors on board capsized in the middle of the Indian Ocean, about 5,000 km north-west of Perth, Australia.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre of Australia received a distress signal from the Lu Peng Yuan Yu on 15 May. The vessel capsized the following day.
As yet, no survivors have been found. As reported by the Chinese state news agency Xinhua, the missing seafarers include 17 Chinese, 17 Indonesians and five Filipinos.
Search and rescue operations are still underway.
The Chinese government sent two ships to the scene to search for the missing crew.
