APM Terminals is going to invest 10 million dollars in the port of Khalifa Bin Salman, Bahrain, to make it energy self-sufficient by the end of 2023.
A total of 20,000 photovoltaic panels are to be installed to generate 18.5 GW of electrical power annually, reducing carbon emissions from port operations by 65%.
Khalifa Bin Salman will be the first in the region to be completely solar-powered port.
The project developed by APM is an intrinsic part of the decarbonization programme developed by the terminal operator and aimed at ensuring a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.
