By the end of 2025, the global container fleet’s capacity will have reached 30 million TEUs, i.e +15 %, or 6.4 mln TEUs more, compared to today.
This is what Clarksons’ latest report confirms. According to Lloyd’s List’s reconstruction, we will see a particular increase in the number of +17,000 TEU vessels over the next three years. Based on current forecasts, there will be an 80% growth in the ULCS fleet compared to 2020, while 12,000 – 17,000 TEU capacity vessels will double in number.
Instead, the number of smaller vessels will fall. By the end of 2025, there will be 2% fewer 3000- 6000 TEU units and 8% fewer feederships with a capacity of less than 3000 TEUs.
If we look at the current orderbook, the fleet will grow by 2 million TEUs in 2023, by a further 2.5 million TEUs in 2024 and 1.9 million TEUs in 2025.
