A containership operated by Yang Ming, the 14,000 TEU capacity YM Witness, knocked down three harbour cranes while berthing at the port of Evyap, east of Istanbul, Turkey.
According to the estimates provided by the Turkish Maritime and Global Strategies Centre, the accident is said to have caused damage worth at least $50 million, leaving the three cranes beyond repair. Significant congestion is also expected in neighbouring ports.
According to local authorities, there were no deaths or injuries. No environmental pollution has been reported.
