Re-lamping of public area lighting kicks off

Livorno port to get LED lighting

by Port News Editorial Staff

Work has begun on upgrading the lighting in public areas in Livorno port. 157 new high energy efficiency lamps, with optics able to guarantee high illumination levels and correct uniformity are to be installed.

The project, awarded to Forlì’s DZ Engineering company for €682,503.59, is set to last 8 months. Lighting fixtures installed both on light towers and  pylons are due to be replaced in all the port’s operational areas (Porto Mediceo, passenger area, Magnale and Industrial harbour, Darsena Toscana and Darsena n.1).

Entirely financed with National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) funds, which the Port Network Authority (PNA) secured through the Green Ports call for proposals, the work complies with green contract requirements. It includes the use of power reduction and measurement systems to ensure that the lighting system’s energy consumption can be optimized and monitored in real time.

The benefit in environmental terms is derived from lower energy consumption, linked to the high-performance LED lamps and the intelligent lighting system which operates only when people or vehicles transit or when operational activity is taking place in port areas and on the quayside. The contract also includes setting up a digital infrastructure for monitoring, controlling and managing each lighting fixture.

PNA President, Luciano Guerrieri stated that “This project is special for the Authority. It is the first work contract launched by the PNA under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Other projects, worth a total of fifty million euros, have already been approved with NRRP funds and will be launched and completed between now and 2026, making a substantial contribution to efficiency, digital and energy transition, and the accessibility of Network ports.”
