According to Linerlytica, almost half of all shipments from Asia to Europe did not keep to their planned schedule due to the congestion problems that some of the major Asian ports, above all Singapore and Tanjung Pelepas, are suffering from.
In its latest report, the market analyst points out that last week only 11 of the scheduled sailings from Asia to Europe left on schedule.
While it is true that bottlenecks in the world’s second busiest port have eased, it is also true that the tension has now shifted to ports in Malaysia and China, where waiting times for goods to be loaded have increased substantially.
In Shanghai, for example, ships had to wait up to five days before they could berth. According to Linerlytica, delays in this port have reached levels that haven’t been seen since the Covid crisis.
