Two-pronged attack off the Yemeni port of Hodeidah

Bulk carrier hit by Houthis sinks

by Port News Editorial Staff

A bulk carrier owned by the Greek company Livenza Shipping Inc, flying the Liberian flag, reportedly sank due to damage from a double attack by the Houthis in the Red Sea, about 70 nautical miles south-west of the Yemeni port of Hodeidah.

Apparently, the vessel was initially hit by an unmanned craft. Subsequently it was seriously damaged by an airborne projectile. In the hours that followed the engine room began flooding.

Military authorities reported sighting marine debris and oil at the ship’s last known position.

The Tutor is the second ship to have been sunk by Yemeni rebels since the conflict between Israel and Hamas broke out. Another bulk carrier met the same fate as the Greek ship: the Belize Rubymar, which sank on 2nd  March after a Houthi missile attack.
