There’s no stopping MSC. Still not satisfied with its long-standing leadership in the container sector in terms of the vessel capacity it offers on the market, the Italo-Swiss liner has decided to further strengthen its stronghold with a maxi order, expected to be around $2.5 billion, according to market estimates.
Gian Luigi Aponte’s group has announced that it has ordered 10 new 21,000 TEU dual fuel containerships from Hengli Heavy Industry shipyards.
The new vessels will be able to run on LNG and are likely to be delivered in 2027.
MSC has a 130 newbuildings on order. The carrier is now able to offer the market a total capacity of over 6 million TEUs, i.e. 20% of the global one. The ships MSC has ordered over the past few years are expected to provide it with an additional 1.8 million TEU capacity
