The market analyst points out that carriers are also cramming in new orders to rejuvenate their fleets.

431 container ships have been ordered overall, totaling 5.9 million TEUs.

The global orderbook is the largest ever recorded in terms of TEU capacity. According to Alphaliner, the new order frenzy is justified by the carriers’ ambition to make their fleet more efficient, also in terms of environmental sustainability.

More and more dual-fuel vessels are being ordered, many of which run on LNG or methanol.
