The British Columbia port strike is over. After bringing Canada’s major ports to a standstill for over a week, the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association said on Wednesday that it had received an order from the Canada Industrial Relations Board, a labour tribunal, to cease protests and resume operations.
‘The BCMEA will fully comply with the interim order from the CIRB’ BCMEA said in a note.
The order by the CIRB was issued after Canadian Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon intervened last Tuesday to end work stoppages at the nation’s major ports. The minister instructed the CIRB to order “the resumption of all operations and functions” at the ports and to “assist the parties by imposing final and binding arbitration.”
