The crew of the Galaxy Leader are to be freed soon. A Houthi spokesman made the announcement to a Japanese television station.
Over a year after the car carrier chartered by the Japanese company NYK was hijacked, the 24 seafarers on board the ship could therefore be released and returned to their families.
The ship’s crew consists of seventeen Filipinos, three Ukrainians, two Bulgarians, two Mexicans and one Romanian.
Last November it was the International Chamber of Shipping that had appealed to the Yemeni rebels to let them free.
So today, thanks to the ongoing negotiations between Hamas and Israel, there could finally be a happy ending to this story.
