Order for upscaling 7 vessels signed

Hapag-Lloyd upscaling small boxships

by Port News Editorial Staff

Hapag-Lloyd has signed a new order with a Chinese shipyard to increase the size of seven of its 9,324 TEU containerships, according to specialized sector publication Splash247

The Cosco Zhoushan shipyard will raise their lashing points to allow them to carry two more tiers of containers on deck, at the same time their funnels will be extended so that exhaust gases are well away from the higher container stacks.

This will allow the seven boxships to increase their capacity by almost 1,000 TEU to 10,200 TEU each.

Two years ago, the German shipping company had commissioned a similar project at a Danish shipyard for seven ships with a capacity of 8000 TEU each.
