All ten top container carriers now own, operate or have ordered dual-fuel vessels running on alternative fuels.
However, a recent survey by Alphaliner reveals that the strategies adopted for reducing CO2 vary widely from company to company.
The consultancy firm points out that Maersk and CMA CGM are the only carriers to have opted to rely on both methanol and LNG for their dual-fuel vessels.
MSC, ZIM and Hapag Lloyd have only bet on LNG for their transition to NET Zero, while Cosco and Evergreen have gone for methanol instead.
The graph in the picture shows just how divided the carriers are on this issue.
