In about a year and a half, Piombino and Portoferraio’s (Elba Island) quays will be equipped with an electrification system.
The North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority has issued a call for tenders for designing the executive project and carrying out the necessary work for setting up cold ironing in the two ports.
The contract, financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRP,) is worth approximately 20.4 million euros. As for the timeframe, 75 days are foreseen for the executive design and 456 days for completing the work, in addition to the four-year maintenance commitment following final approval.
In the port of Piombino, the project involves setting up a distribution cabin near the Dente Nord Capitaneria pier. The rest of the work, i.e. cable ducts and cables between the cabins/quayside sockets, will be underground and hence not visible.
The infrastructure will include all the necessary shoreside socket and connection equipment.
In Portoferraio’s port, the project involves building a distribution cabin located in the urban area behind the port and not far from the quays. The rest of the work, i.e. cable ducts and cables between the cabins/quayside sockets, will be completely underground and hence not visible. The infrastructure also includes all the necessary shoreside socket and connection equipment.
The contracting authority reserves the right to also make the contractor responsible for connecting vessels for a period of two years following provisional approval.
This includes direct involvement in cabins, components and connection facilities. The company will be required to carry out the checks and tests required by the IEC standard to ensure vessels are connected correctly. In addition, it will be the company’s responsibility to provide skilled labour for all plug connection operations up to the side of the ship including start-up and disconnection, under the guidance and coordination of the personnel on board. A special permit will be required for quayside operations and plant management.
Tenders must be submitted by economic operators and received by the Contracting Authority by 29th September 2023.
