Two general cargo ships collided off the coast of Turkey.
The Libyan-flagged Turan C hit the Barbados-flagged Burhan Dizman while at anchor near Ahirkapi, south of the Bosphorus Strait in the Sea of Marmara.
The Turan C was on route to Constanta, Romania, while the Burhan Dizman was bound for Novorossiysk, Russia. The former’s bow and stern were seriously damaged while the latter suffered damage to its port side.
Very bad weather conditions and too many ships waiting at anchor north and south of the Bosphorus Strait were partially responsible for the collision.
According to Lloyds Intelligence, this is the seventh incident in the area this year.
