The president of Confitarma, Mario Mattioli, expressed his deep sorrow for the death of the President of the European Parliament. “On behalf of the Italian shipowners’ industry I would like to say that we deeply share the pain and dismay for the untimely death of Hon. David Sassoli”.
“Mr. Sassoli” – Mattioli stressed – “always showed great attention to and interest in maritime transport, recognizing the leading role of the Italian shipping industry and contributing important insights for the future of our sector. On the occasion of the 2019 Confitarma Assembly, the last prior to the pandemic, I was able to appreciate not only his determination and expertise but also his kindness and willingness to exchange views. I remember that not being able to attend our event in person, he wanted to send a message confirming Europe’s full commitment to the blue economy.”
“To the members of his family I would like to express the closeness and heartfelt sympathy of Italian shipowners and my own personal condolences for the loss of a major protagonist of Italian and European history.”
