Announcement by Los Angeles & Long Beach Port Authorities

Congestion charge postponed

by Port News Editorial Staff

The Container Excess Dwell Fee, the “congestion” charge for carriers whose imported containers stay too long in Long Beach and Los Angeles port terminals, has been postponed to November 22nd.

Port of Los Angeles Executive Director, Gene Seroka, said that over the last few weeks there had been a significant improvement in clearing imported containers from their quays.

Since the additional charge was announced in late October, the twin ports have seen a reduction in the amount of cargo left unaccounted for of around 26%.

According to Mr. Seroka, this is thanks to the teamwork of shipping lines, port terminals, trucks and cargo owners.
