Container spot freight rate trend stable

Another week of stability for spot freight rates in the container shipping market. Drewry’s World Container Index fell by only 0.1% on the previous week to $1,709 per 40-foot container and was 78% lower than the same week last year.

Spot rates, currently below the 36% average of the last ten years and down 84% from their peak in September 2021, nevertheless remain 20% higher than their 2019 pre-pandemic levels.

Rotterdam-Shanghai freight rates  fell by 5%, to 642 dollars per FEU. Shanghai-Los Angeles and New York-Rotterdam rates  also fell on a weekly basis, down  4%, for both to $1674 and $1025 per forty-foot box respectively.

On the contrary, Shanghai-New York freight rates were up by 2% to 2552 dollars per FEU.

Shanghai-Genoa, Los Angeles-Shanghai and Rotterdam-New York freight rates stayed  the same  as the previous week.
