According to ship brokers, Clarksons, boxships are driving investments, filling shipyard slots.
From Splash247’s account we discover that, to date, nearly 900 containerships have been ordered since the fourth quarter, totaling 7 million TEUs. This is an all-time record.
On the contrary, the number of orders in the tanker and bulker sectors, which together represent 75 percent of the world’s dwt capacity, have declined sharply.
With a total of 35 million dwt, the tanker orderbook is the lowest it has been in 25 years. At 69 million dwt, the bulker orderbook is near an 18-year low.
