Cosco Car Carrier Shipping has announced that it has just ordered three new 7000 CEU (Car Equivalent Unit) vessels from the Chinese shipyard in Guangzhou.
The Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC) will be dual fuel, also running on Liquefied Natural Gas. This brings the total number of new ships commissioned by the carrier to 24. They are due to be delivered over the next three years.
Cosco Car Carrier Shipping was set up in August 2022 as a joint venture between Cosco Shipping, SAIC Motor and Shanghai International Port Group. The company was conceived partly in response to the incredible expansion of new car traffic to and from China.
In 2022, exports were up 54.4% year-on year, to 3.1 million units. In the first two months of the year, exports surged by 82.2% compared to the same period last year.
