An aircraft operated by Swiftair for DHL crashed while approaching Vilnius airport yesterday morning. One crew member died in the crash, while three others have been hospitalized.
Local police have begun investigating to ascertain the cause of the accident. Terrorism has not yet been ruled out.
The head of the Lithuanian rescue service, Renatas Pozela, said that the plane crashed a few kilometres away from the airport. Pieces of its wreckage hit a residential building. No one on the ground has been injured, however.
The aircraft, an old Boeing with 31 years’ service, had taken off from Leipzig in East Germany.
