€1 million to support the ecological transition of port companies in Livorno and Piombino.
A total of six projects were financed by the Call for Proposals published by the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority last November. The funding eligibility list was approved in this phase.
Five of these projects are earmarked for the ecological conversion of the port of Piombino. One is in the port of Livorno, with non-repayable subsidies of up to €300,000, with NRRP (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) – Next Generation EU funds.
Only eco-friendly full electric or hydrogen-powered vehicles were eligible under this call, in line with the decarbonization targets set by the NRRP.
Various types of investments are entitled to European support, and are part of the Green Ports programme, coordinated by the Ministry for Environment & Energy Security. They include goods handling vehicles , waste collection and transport, electric cars for the operational needs of companies operating in North Tyrrhenian ports.
Current vehicles, with engines running on traditional fuels, emit around 56 tonnes of CO2 per year, according to estimates provided by the operators themselves. Replacing them with full-electric vehicles will contribute significantly to reducing this figure.
Piombino Logistics, Compagnia Portuali di Piombino, Piombino Port Security; Permare and Sintermar are all elegible for funding.
The subsidized projects are to be completed and delivered by March 2026, as per the overall NRRP deadline.
