There was a violent explosion on the containership YM Mobility today in the port of Ningbo-Zhoushan in the eastern province of Zhejiang.
The explosion may have been triggered by a glycerin shipment inside a container. The blast was so strong that it caused the roof of a nearby building to collapse.
No causalities among the crew have so far been reported.
The Ningbo Maritime Search and Rescue Centre launched an emergency response program sending patrol boats to the scene. Three fire-fighting tugs and firefighters were also deployed.
The YM Mobility is a Liberian-flagged 6,589 TEU boxship, built in 2011, owned by the Taiwanese company Yang Ming.
