In the first quarter of this year, container traffic handled at port terminals belonging to the German Eurokai group, which operates through its subsidiaries Eurogate and Contship Italia ,with 50% and 66.6% of the capital, was down 16.1% compared to the same period last year, to 2.62 million TEUs.
In Italy, the overall 16.5% downturn in traffic resulted from the 26.5% drop at La Spezia Container Terminal, handling 225,000 TEUs, and the 1.9% reduction in Terminal Container Ravenna (TCR) in the port of Ravenna, with a throughput of 48,000 TEUs.
These losses were not entirely offset by the significant +13.5% increase at Salerno Container Terminal, which handled 85,000 TEUs.
At the group’s terminals in other countries, traffic totaled 665 thousand TEUs (-5.4%). In the Moroccan port of Tanger Med, traffic totaled 583 thousand TEUs (-3.6%), while in the Cypriot port of Limassol a 10.8% downturn was recorded.
