The reshuffling of box shipping alliances will have a very positive effect on traffic flows from Europe to India.
Alphaliner expects the total capacity deployed on the trade route to increase by 24.1% once the new service networks announced over the last few days by Gemini (Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd) and the Premier Alliance (ONE, HMM and Yang Ming) become effectively operational. The average size of the vessels operated by the major carriers on routes between the Old Continent and the Asian state is due to increase from 9,833 to 11,332 TEUs.
Last week, Alphaliner counted 113 ships providing dedicated liner services between Europe and India. Most of these loops also serve Middle Eastern ports.
