A fire broke out today on board a containership off the Pacific coast of Canada. It was the Kingstom, a 4,253 TEU boxship operated by the Israeli shipping company ZIM.

The vessel was on its way to Vancouver when, on October 22nd , it was hit by severe weather. As a result, about forty containers fell into the sea and other boxes containing highly flammable chemicals were damaged.

16 crewmembers were successfully evacuated; five others, including the captain, remained on board to assist firefighters in firefighting operations. The ship is now anchored off Victoria Harbor.
