A fire broke out yesterday on board the Moby Bastia, moored in the port of Piombino. None of the 12 crew members was injured or intoxicated. A possible diesel leak or a short circuit caused the fire.
Fortunately, the two engineers who were in the engine room promptly intervened, activating the fire containment procedure, while waiting for the fire service to arrive.
The flames were put out shortly before 8 a.m.
There were no passengers on board the ferry. In fact, the ship only makes occasional sailings.
