According to MDS Transmodal Ltd’s latest chart of the week, from 19th December to 5th February, the fleet capacity used in east-west transits via Suez by the top ten carriers was down 75% compared to the same period last year.
The vessel capacity deployed by Maersk fell from 1.79 to 0.47 million TEUs, while MSC’s was down from 1.65 to the current 0.22 million TEUs. CMA CGM and COSCO’s fleet capacity also decreased, from 1.17 and 0.86 to 0.89 and 0.15 million TEUs respectively.
Overall, fleet capacity was 71% less, if smaller shipping companies are included.
