In March, the average price for a 40ft container in European ports hit $1,436, according to Container Xchange’s latest report.
The port congestion problems plaguing Asian and European ports, directly affecting 10% of global capacity, and rerouting to the Cape of Good Hope, are keeping charter prices of cargo-worthy containers high.
European ports are also struggling due to recent labour disputes in Rotterdam, Hamburg and Le Havre.
Hamburg is the port which currently has the highest box freight rates.
