Bulk carrier attacked

Gabon, pirates kidnap three seafarers

by Port News Editorial Staff

The Grebe Bulker, a bulk carrier with 20 crewmembers on board, was attacked yesterday by a group of armed individuals while at anchor in the port of Owendo Anchorage, Gabon, in the Gulf of Guinea.

Three members, including the captain, were kidnapped while the others were left unharmed. The ship, which had come from Harcourt,Nigeria, arrived in Owendo on 30th April, is still at anchor in the Gabonese port.

Gabon and the Gulf of Guinea have increasingly become a hotspot for piracy, with multiple attacks being reported in the first four months of the year.
