A car carrier operated by the Japanese Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and believed to be linked to Israel, was seized on Sunday by Yemeni Houthi militia while off Hodeida, Yemen.
According to reports from Al Jazeera and the Saudi daily Al-Hadth, the rebels are operating on behalf of Iran, although the latter has denied being involved in the attack.
The Galaxy Leader, had departed from the Turkish port of Korfez and was bound for Pipavav, India. There were 22 people on board, none of whom appear to be Israelis.
On Sunday morning, Yahya Sare’e, spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces, had threatened to attack Israeli ships.
