Gender equality begins with words

“A praiseworthy initiative that deserves the utmost attention” said North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority (PNA) Managing Director, Matteo Paroli, commenting on the Italian Port Association’s (Assoporti) publication of its ‘Guidelines for Effective, Respectful and Inclusive Communication in the Italian Port Network Authorities.” The publication is the result of an in-depth reflection on the importance of communication in promoting a language respecting diversity.
“As the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella pointed out recently, gender gaps between men and women still continue to this very day, not only in terms of salary, education and career, but also in terms of culture. A correct, clear use of language, also in terms of gender, can help break down stereotypes and prejudices and consequently bring about real social equity. Assoporti was right to publish these Guidelines. Communication can play a fundamental role in combating inequality between men and women and promoting respect for diversity,” said Mr. Paroli.
“I thank my colleagues at the North Tyrrhenian PNA who helped give shape and substance to the project, working in Assoporti’s inequality group,” he concluded.
