Incident involving the MSC Faith

Grounding in the Singapore Strait

by Port News Editorial Staff

An MSC boxship, the MSC Faith, ran aground in the Singapore Strait on 31st January. According to Lloyd’s List Intelligence no injuries or oil leaks in the water were reported.

The 11,000 TEU ship was on its way to Yantian, China, when it ran aground in the stretch of water between Singapore’s St. John Island and the Indonesian island of Palau Sambu.

The grounding apparently took place outside the shipping lane. Hence, it  did not affect the traffic.

Local authorities have launched an underwater investigation to inspect the vessel’s hull.
