by Port News Editorial Staff

Hapag-Lloyd has commissioned two Chinese shipyards to build 20 dual-fuel LNG ships. Sector magazine, Splash247, gave the news, citing a Broker Intermodal report.

One of the shipyards, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, has been commissioned to build ten 17,000 TEU capacity vessels at a cost of $210 million each. The contract contains an option for the buyer to exercise a right for an additional five newbuildings.

The other shipyard, New Times Shipbuilding, is to construct ten 9200 TEU vessels, at $140 million each.

These orders will enable the German carrier to strengthen its position as one of the top five shipping lines with the largest boxship fleet worldwide.
