A month after the last attack

Houthis back on the attack again

by Port News Editorial Staff

The Houthis have been back on the attack again in the Red Sea after a month of apparent peace.

A Panama-flagged tanker was hit yesterday morning by four missiles fired from a remotely piloted craft. One of its portside ballast tanks was severely damaged.

The Cordelia Moon began flooding. In the attack carried out by the Yemeni rebels, another ship, a Liberian-flagged bulker, was also apparently involved. Its starboard side tanks were only slightly damaged and the bulker was still able to continue its journey to the Suez Canal.

The Cordelia Moon was attacked by the Houthis because it was mistaken for a British ship. In reality, the vessel is registered under a Panamanian company, Amber Shipping Incorporated and is operated by a company registered in India, Margao Marine Solutions.

This is not time this has happened. In April, another ship operated by Margao Marine Solutions, the Andromeda Star, was attacked by the Houthis because it was believed to be a British tanker.
