The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas has claimed its first victim in the shipping world: the Genoese shipping company Kalypso, founded in 2021 and specializing in services between Asia and the Mediterranean.
According to the specialized sector periodical Splash247, the carrier was put into liquidation following the decision of the Chinese company Zhong Gu, owner of four ships operated by Kalypso, not to allow them to berth in Israeli ports in the aftermath of the tensions between Israel and Palestine. The ships had been deployed on Kalypso’s Marco Polo service linking Asia with the Mediterranean.
Since 2021, the company has made over 100 departures from Asia to the Mediterranean.
The service connected China – Bangladesh – Israel – Italy – Spain.
