Using bulk carriers to transport new cars. That’s the idea Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers has had to cope with the shortage of available car carriers.
The company has adapted the COSCO Shipping Wisdom’s holds to the new transport requirements. This allows the vessel to load over 1,100 cars bound for South American markets.
Chinese cars have become popular abroad over the last few years, but due to factors such as the coronavirus pandemic, the capacity of specialized car carriers is far from sufficient to meet China’s export demand.
The temporary solution will enable the company to meet market demand in the automotive sector while continuing to import lumber and other forest products on its return voyages.
