A new annual record for the US port of Long Beach, which closed 2024 with a 200.3 mln tonne traffic turnover. This marks an increase of 14.1% over 2023 and breaking its all-time 2021 record, when just 3.9 mln tonnes less cargo were handled.
Last year, the port handled 9.65 million TEUs, up 20.3% on the previous year and 265,000 TEUs above its historical 2021 peak. Both loaded imports (4.73 mln TEUs, +24.3% year-on-year) and empty containers, up 26.6% on 2023, to 3.71 mln TEUs, contributed positively to the result. On the other hand, loaded exports were down (-5.9% year-on-year, to 1.21 mln TEUs).
