This afternoon a 40-year concession contract was signed. The area where a modern marina, with a potential 641 berth capacity, is to be built has been assigned to the Porta a Mare company

After announcing it at the last management committee meeting on 5th December, today the President of the Port Network Authority (PNA), Luciano Guerrieri, assigned  the company a 121,868,000m2 area comprising the Darsena Nuova, the small drydock, and the Porto Mediceo, from the Molo Elba pier to the end of the Molo Mediceo pier.

With the signing of the concession deed, the Port Network Authority has put an end to an issue that began sixteen years ago with the signing of the programme agreement with  the Prime Minister’s cabinet. Fruitful dialogue with the boating associations, led to an agreement at the end of 2021 to transfer  small and medium-sized boats from the Mediceo area to the Darsena Nuova, giving the larger boats the option of remaining in the Mediceo at commonly agreed rates. The Marina project will guarantee 450 berths for Livorno’s yachting sector for the next twenty years, in addition to providing 191 places for large boats.

After having authorized the granting of the concession back in December 2020, on 5th December the Management Committee was called upon to express its opinion on a small reorganization of the shoreside areas required for the Marina project, which now also include those behind quay 74.

Over the last few weeks, the Port Authority has worked on finalizing the procedure, revising the agreements signed in 2007 with the institutions,  first and foremost with  the Port Police and the Italian Navy, which had legitimate interests in those areas.

“Awarding the concession is of considerable importance for developing our nautical industry and  the employment prospects it entails.” Said  PNA  President Luciano Guerrieri. “With the concession deed, the Porta a Mare company will be able to design the final project and then start doing the work required within the timeframe envisaged in the concession contract.”

PNA Managing Director Matteo Paroli, expressed his satisfaction: “This is an important result. This work has been very complex. It has required a great deal of commitment by our staff and clear common intent between public and private parties.
