Specialized website Splash247 reports that the MSC Riona hit a terminal crane at the Chinese port of Yantian yesterday morning, causing it to partially collapse.
The 1,730 TEU capacity vessel, built in 1998, was on an intra-Asia service. Fortunately, there were no casualties, although some of the ship’s containers reportedly fell overboard, according to local media.
There are currently only very limited details on how the accident occurred.
The port has temporarily suspended its operations.
